Playground Construction Under Way

Letter from student

With a $400,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Paul Cuffee School is remediating a parcel of land that has been identified as a Brownfield site. A portion of the redeveloped space will provide a much-needed playing field for our students and the remainder as a handicapped-accessible parking lot.

Brownfields are properties whose expansion, redevelopment, or reuse may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. Cleaning up and reinvesting in these properties protects the environment, reduces blight, and takes development pressures off green spaces and working lands.

Funds from the EPA will cover only expenses for the land remediation; Paul Cuffee School will need to raise the additional funds to finish the playing field for students. If you would like to support the school’s effort, please consider making a donation.
