Award-Winning Artist Visits the Middle School

Kazu Kibuishi

Paul Cuffee Reading Specialist, Brooke Rennie jumped at the chance to schedule award-winning artist, writer, and graphic novelist Kazu Kibuishi’s visit to our Middle School in advance of his appearance at the 2018 Rhode Island Festival of Children’s Books and Authors. Thanks to her efforts, all 180+ students were spellbound during a very special presentation by the celebrated writer and artist of Amulet, the New York Times best-selling graphic novel series.

For the hour-long assembly, Kazu spoke about his childhood interests and career in the entertainment industry, answered dozens of students’ questions, and magically “sketched” a beautiful digital painting which he gifted to the School. He then led an interactive workshop for a smaller group of students during which they explored the art of writing and illustrating graphic novels.

Individual donations and grant funding make guest artist visits and residencies like this possible. Thank you for helping to support the extraordinary teaching and learning that takes place at Paul Cuffee School with your gifts to the School and its Annual Fund.
