Wish List

Everyday Paul Cuffee School faculty discover new opportunities to improve the academic performance and physical well-being of our students. Usually fulfilling these needs costs a little extra, an expense that our annual operating budget doesn’t include. You can make a very big difference, sometimes in a very small way, by funding or donating any of the following:

"I would love to have funding to support the travel and land expenses for a total immersion/professional development trip for eight faculty and staff members to the Dominican Republic, during February break."
Alicia Luzon, Parent Engagement Coordinator

"A classroom computer would be great - a desktop computer or even a laptop! Also music: international, jazz, anything to play in the classroom."
Shivohn Garcia, 7th Grade Teacher

"My class could use some thick Crayola markers, and pastel or different colored crayons. Books are always a welcome addition to our classroom library as well." Donna Raymond, 2nd Grade Teacher

"I could really use some books on tape!"
Jennifer Bifulco, 3rd Grade Teacher

"A new color printer for the art studio, and 18 disposable cameras would be great!"
Michelle Carden, Lower School Art Specialist

"I would love a subscription to Time For Kids, Sports Illustrated for Kids and/or Ranger Rick."
Kelly Barr, 4th Grade Teacher

"I'd love some instrumental music CD's to use during quiet time in my classroom." Sandy Leclerc, 3rd Grade Teacher

"We would love to add The Napping House and Piggies, by Don and Audrey Wood, to our classroom library."
Amy Hill, Kindergarten Teacher

"I would LOVE to have books about Biomes and animal adaptations appropriate for 3rd to 6th grade reading levels."
Edna Attias, 6th Grade Teacher

"Hand-held CD or tape players would be great additions for our literacy/humanities classrooms."
Leslie McCrea, Middle School Title 1 Teacher

"A DVD/VHS player for the middle school would be very useful."
Ariana Wohl, Integrated Science Education Instructor

"Library volunteers, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoons at the Lower School and Friday afternoons at the Middle School, would be great."
Megan Southard, Library Specialist

"We would really appreciate donations to help fund the middle school sports program: transportation, cleats for soccer and baseball, uniforms, equipment."
Brent Fusaro, Middle School Physical Education Instructor

Additional Wish List Items

Healthy Snacks: The school needs a surplus of healthy snacks for 432 students in kindergarten through grade eight. Classrooms need daily servings enough for 16 children. Kindergarten and middle school children are growing so quickly that they often need snacks twice each day. Fresh fruit in season like apples, bananas, grapes and oranges are always appreciated. Dry goods in bulk, without nuts or peanuts, are appreciated. Suggestions include: Cheese Its, Animal Crackers, Graham Crackers, Cheese and Crackers, Rice Cakes, Popcorn, Pretzels, Raisins, and Granola Bars. We choose not to serve cookies, cakes, candies, brownies, chips, donuts or other sweets. If you would like to donate snacks to our school, please contact Julia Karahalis at jkarahalis@paulcuffee.org or 453-2626 x 118.

Children's Picture Books on Tape:
Listening to books on tape is a great way for students to learn and enjoy reading while developing auditory schools. Please contact Ann Hampson, Title 1 Reading Specialist at x120.

Digital Cameras and Canvas Chairs:
Digital cameras and 20 canvas chairs or low folding chairs for nature studies outside are welcome in both the lower and middle school.

Artist Books:
Any artist books (Monet, Bearden, etc.) of any kind of prints/posters are needed for our middle school art program."

Microsoft Flight Simulator: "At the middle school we could really use 20 copies of Microsoft Flight Simulator. They are about $30 each." Allyn Copp, 8th Grade Advisor

Books:  Anne Hampson, our Title 1 Reading teacher, would greatly appreciate The Librarian of Basra by Jeanette Winter, Please Bury Me in the Library by Patrick Lewis, The Art of Reading by Dutton, and/or any books by Jan Brett, but two titles in particular - Berlioz the Bear and Town Mouse, Country Mouse.

Field Trip Funds for the following:

$900 + the cost of R/T bus transportation for 150 children to go to a special theatre dance or musical.

$350 + the cost of R/T bus transportation for 50 children to visit museums such as Boston's Science Museum or Mystic Seaport.

Scholarship Funds for the following:

Middle School Soccer Program:
Mr. Fusaro coaches a middle school team, but we need approximately $2,000 for uniforms, cleats and referee stipends. Maybe there is a local corporation or business that would like to sponsor the Paul Cuffee soccer team? If you can help fund this exciting new program, or know someone else who may be interested, please put them in touch with Mr. Fusaro at the middle school at 401-453-2711.

Seal Watch
: Each year our second grade students have a great opportunity to take the Save the Bay Seal Watch tour in Newport. To help underwrite the cost, donations are needed to provide our students with reduced ticket prices and to help pay for the buses. $500 would be an enormous help.

Sailing and Swimming Lessons: One of the biggest costs to Paul Cuffee School is the bus transportation to field trips, swimming lessons at the YMCA, Save the Bay Camp and to sailing lessons at the Providence Community Boating Center. If you would like to help with scholarship money for lessons, camps and/or buses, it would make a huge difference to children who otherwise might not get the chance to go. Please contact Julia Karahalis in the Development Office at 401-453-2626 x 118 or email jkarahalis@paulcuffee.org.
