Who Was Rosalind C. Wiggins?
"Our mom, Posy Wiggins,
was an advocate for social and racial justice. She spent her professional
life studying and teaching about African Americans. Besides being an artist,
teacher, social activist and writer, she was the editor for Paul Cuffee's
Logs and Letters.
A love of literature, art, music, poetry and history is evident in the
titles and authors of her books. Because of her involvement with Paul Cuffee
School, it was an easy decision for us to donate her entire collection of
books by and about African Americans to their library. Our hope is that
generous friends like you will help us keep her memory alive by joining the
Wiggins Society so that the School can add books and resources to her
collection each year."

The Rosalind C. Wiggins
Collection
The Rosalind C. Wiggins Collection is the first named collection in our
school's library. It is an eclectic mix of books and resources by African
Americans, or about African American history and culture. The collection
belonged to our friend Rosalind (Posy) Wiggins, who was a social activist
and historian.
Posy was particularly interested
in the influence of African Americans and Quakers in the history of
Providence and Newport and used this collection to support her teaching and
writing. As the editor of Paul Cuffee's Logs and Letters, her work is
of particular interest to the School.
A collection in her
name was created in 2006 to honor Posy and educate children about Africa and
the accomplishments of African Americans.

A Dual Purpose: To
Honor and To Educate
The Rosalind C. Wiggins
Collection will provide all Paul Cuffee School students with age-appropriate
books and media by and about African Americans. It will also provide
educational resources for teachers at the School.
To keep this collection current and growing, we have established an
endowment in Posy's name at The Rhode Island Foundation. Your gifts each
year to the Rosalind C. Wiggins Fund will allow us to:
The objectives
will be met by your generous support and by increasing and renewing
memberships to the Wiggins Society each year.
