Reading Week Kicks Off with “Rhode Rebel”

demonstrating their robot, Rhode Rebel, to the lower school students.

Squeals of delight rose from amazed lower school students as Rhode Island Reading Week commenced with a presentation of robotics by Providence Career and Technical Academy students. Rhode Rebel, the robot, was able to “pitch” a ball to a catcher and move in any direction.

This year’s state-wide celebration of books and reading is STEM related and encourages students to “Experiment with a Good Book: Read!”  In keeping with this year’s science-oriented theme, reading week guests include an astronomer, a geologist, an engineer, an architect, and the ROV (robot) pilot from the Exploration Vessel “Nautilus”.
