At Paul Cuffee School, we believe in supporting the whole student, including the student-athlete. Participation in organized sports provides students with opportunities to develop sportsmanship, discipline, time management, teamwork, and leadership skills while building confidence and learning valuable life lessons.
Athletic Program
Paul Cuffee Upper School partners with the Providence Public School Department (PPSD) for all athletic programming. PCUS students in Grades 9–12 are eligible to try out for and participate in sports through our PPSD-assigned partner school.
2026–2027 Athletic Partner
For the 2026–2027 school year, Mount Pleasant High School serves as PCUS’s PPSD athletic partner. PCUS students may try out for sports offered through the Mount Pleasant athletic program and, if selected, participate in those sports.
- Sports offerings vary by season. Students and families should contact the Athletics & After School Partnerships Liaison for information about available sports, tryouts, schedules, and participation requirements.
- Eligibility requirements: All student-athletes must meet applicable athletic eligibility requirements and complete required Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) paperwork and physical documentation before participating.
- Schedule conflicts: When athletic schedules conflict with the PCUS school day, students may be provided with an alternative dismissal time. These arrangements are determined on a sport-by-sport basis in coordination with PCUS administration, the coach, and the athletic director of the PPSD partner school.
Athletics & After School Partnerships Liaison
Our Athletics & After School Partnerships Liaison serves as the primary point of contact between PCUS students and families and the partner school’s Athletic Director and coaching staff. The liaison also helps coordinate transportation, schedules, early dismissals, and other logistics related to athletic participation.
