Paul Cuffee School Nature Enthusiasts Delight Government Officials

Paul Cuffee School students and Ms. Gale at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Providence Urban Wildlife Conservation Partnership

Six of our 5th grade nature enthusiasts (Joshua, Emily, Jaime, Lori, Xavier, and Rosemary) and their equally passionate Nature Club leader, Stacy Gale, represented Paul Cuffee School at the 10th anniversary of the Providence Urban Wildlife Conservation Partnership (UWCP) on February 5th. Through their collaboration with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and other regional programs and agencies, the UWCP has earned a national reputation for improving vital urban wildlife habitat, providing world-class environmental education opportunities, and expanding access to outdoor recreation for underserved communities.

Each fifth grader who attended the UWCP anniversary celebration at Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden, shared with a distinguished audience of organization leaders and government officials about their experiences with nature and what they love most about being part of the Nature Club.

Genuine appreciation for our students’ participation in the anniversary celebration program was expressed by everyone in attendance. Senators Reed and Whitehouse, Representatives Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo, and Providence’s Mayor Brett Smiley had really great things to say about our students when meeting and shaking their hands. It was quite clear that the event was made even more memorable as a result of our students’ testimonials.
