New Endowment Honoring David Burnham Will Provide Maritime Experiences for Paul Cuffee Students

Benefactors of Paul Cuffee School and friends of David Burnham gathered at the Providence Art Club recently at a reception to announce the launch of the David Burnham Maritime Fund. The fund was set up in memory of David Burnham, one of the founders of the maritime-themed charter school 13 years ago, who passed away last spring. An avid sailor, Dave loved the open waters, the sea spray on his face, and the wind filling his sails. His dream for Paul Cuffee School students was that they experience the sea, the winds, and the tides with the same awe and affinity. The David Burnham Maritime Fund will help accomplish that dream. An endowment set up in Dave’s name and managed by the Rhode Island Foundation will fund the maritime experiences that Dave wished for generations of Paul Cuffee School students. Thanks to the generosity of a good friend of the school, every dollar you contribute to the David Burnham Maritime Fund will be matched up to $55,000.
