PCS 11th grader Wesley Monteiro Cabral spoke at the 2015 Morris J.W. Gaebe Profile in Excellence Awards dinner at the Marriott in Providence.

Instituted by Junior Achievement of Rhode Island, the award recognizes Rhode Island professionals who have demonstrated courageous thinking and actions, vision and innovation, inspiring leadership and community mindedness.

Wesley was invited to speak and introduce one of five honorees, Ms. Dale Venturini who is the President/CEO of the Rhode Island Hospitality Association.

Wesley and Ms. Venturini’s paths crossed during a field trip for an action research class in which students shadowed professionals in the hospitality industry. Her presentation made an impression on him - he could identify with her journey to overcome poverty and her determination in pursuing her career.

As he spoke during the Junior Achievement event, Wesley noted how so many of his peers face the same challenges and how encouraging a story like hers is to hundreds of students state-wide.
