While making her televised announcements on Sunday May 2nd, Governor Raimondo recognized Paul Cuffee students for logging the most independent reading time of any elementary school in the entire state of Rhode Island!  The Governor’s accolade: “Way to Go Paul Cuffee,” and her two thumbs up gesture in praise of our school, will be long-remembered by those whose impressive efforts contributed to this public recognition.

Thanks to the initiative of Mrs. Lehmuller, our elementary school librarian, and the support of our teachers, families, and friends, our K-5 students logged a total of 108,092 reading minutes!

To reward the student who logged the most minutes, Mrs. Lehmuller and her husband designed a Governor’s Cup trophy. They delivered the award to the home of Cuffee fourth grader, Elibel Cepeda Tapia, who recorded 5,385 minutes of independent reading time!

Elibel and a student from each of the other five grades will become the lucky recipients of an Amazon Fire Tablet raffle prize for reading the recommended number of minutes every day, and submitting their reading logs to their teachers during the Governor’s Cup Challenge!

While the Governor’s Cup is over, our students’ need for at-home books and resources is increasing every day. You can help our school keep pace with our students’ reading by donating to www.paulcuffee.org and having your gift matched by two generous friends of the school.
