Mother Nature provided perfect weather for the days in mid-October that our 1st and 4th graders spent at Briggs Boesch Farm. Their teachers and the Farm’s educators created an immersive cross-curricular experience to deepen students’ content knowledge and their environmental literacy.
Students began each day with a morning meeting during which they greeted one another, considered an intention for the day, and reviewed the prior knowledge and vocabulary that would connect with their hands-on learning experiences for that day. Standards-based science content came alive at the farm and was easily integrated with related topics like nutrition, food production, geography, history, and farm life so that students were able to make new connections and discoveries while enjoying hands-on learning activities outdoors.
