The goal for Senior Teach Day is to expose Paul Cuffee Upper School students to the field of education by immersing them in a teacher’s life for a day. In addition to providing our students with first-hand career experience, the broader goal is to positively impact the field of education with aspirational teaching candidates of color.
In Rhode Island, less than 11% of teachers are people of color even though our state has 34% students of color. Senior Teach Day is one way to increase the diversity of voice, experience, and talent in the field of education. In addition, Paul Cuffee School is highly motivated to hire qualified alumni (and have already begun doing so) as members of our faculty and staff. We look forward to introducing more Cuffee students to the talented seniors and alum who may become professional educators at our school!
