To conclude their Black History Month studies, Ms. Conrad’s 4th grade class presented a form of performance poetry where each student selects and reads aloud a selected poem by a Black American poet to an audience of appreciative peers and guests in the school’s library.
This celebratory project has grown over the years to include students’ analysis of their selected poems in the context of Black American history, as well as to enhance their reading fluency, vocabulary development and practice with public speaking and performance.
