An anonymous donor generously designated a donation to our long-time community partner, St. Andrew’s School, for Paul Cuffee students to attend summer camp. Thanks to this donation, 20 students were able to take part in a variety of high-quality offerings, which also provided some families with much-needed childcare, allowing parents to work with peace of mind. The students also received a hot, nutritious lunch as part of the experience.
The PCS students participated in several camps including Adventure Camp, Hoops with Hart Camp, Voyager Camp, and Fiber Arts & Design Camp. During these camps, students had the opportunity to explore new experiences, make new friends, and form meaningful connections with the staff. One of the students, Kailianny Beltre, aspires to become a doctor. However, her experience at the Fiber Arts & Design Camp allowed her to tap into her creative side and discover her love for sewing.
In the Fiber Arts & Design Camp, young creatives learned how to build their skills through engaging projects and create original work using fibers and fabric materials. They were taught a wide range of techniques, including felting, eco printing, and embroidery. Campers were encouraged to continue creating outside of camp hours, and Kailianny took full advantage of this, producing 4 to 5 pieces of art each night. At the end of the week, the campers displayed their collections for their families. Kailianny had the most extensive collection on display and found a mentor in Ms. Hollis Hickerson. We are immensely grateful to our anonymous donor and St. Andrew’s School for providing our students with these incredible opportunities.
