A Week of Stories and Excitement

Reading Week at Paul Cuffee Lower School was a vibrant celebration of books and community. The week kicked off with a fun surprise for students as former Physical Education teacher Coach Marlon Mussington, joining virtually from California, read to the entire school during Monday Morning Meeting. It was a heartwarming moment to see a familiar face from afar, setting the tone for an exciting week ahead.

Throughout the week, parents and community members visited classrooms to read aloud to students. Teachers and students also took turns visiting various classes to volunteer as guest readers. To track their reading progress, students created personalized bookmarks—colorful reminders of their journey through books.

Themed days brought extra excitement to the festivities. One standout was “Wild About Reading,” where students wore animal prints or clothing featuring animals, adding a playful twist to the celebration.

The week culminated in a magical all-school flashlight read in the gymnasium. With the lights turned off and students reading with their flashlight, the gym transformed into a cozy, story-filled space. This special experience not only encouraged reading, but also united the entire school in a shared love for stories and imagination.
