Building a Culture of Positive Connections

At Paul Cuffee School, positive connections matter. Across our lower, middle, and upper schools, principals and staff are finding ways to make positive recognition a regular part of the school day.

At the Lower School, staff are working to increase positive feedback during classroom interactions. At the Middle School, recent professional development focused on using specific, encouraging language to reinforce students’ positive choices, effort, and behaviors. Rather than simply saying “Good job,” teachers are encouraged to acknowledge actions such as continuing to work when a task gets challenging, listening respectfully to a classmate, or taking responsibility for an assignment. These small, intentional moments help reinforce the behaviors and habits that support learning.

In the Upper School, Turtle Points offer another way to recognize students who demonstrate the six B’s: Be Respectful, Be Scholarly, Be Reflective, Be Responsible, Be Supportive, and Be Brave.

These everyday actions reflect a shared commitment to creating a school community where students feel seen, valued, and supported. By recognizing positive choices and reinforcing the school’s values, our educators help foster relationships that support students both in and beyond the classroom.
