Students in grades 1–3 welcomed author Tami Charles to Paul Cuffee School to hear about her journey as a writer, drawing on her years as a teacher and her experiences raising her son, who has ADHD. She introduced her newest book, That Beautiful Mind, which she co-authored with her son, and shared the message at its heart: everyone has a unique and beautiful mind, and we all think, learn, and experience the world differently.
Tami read excerpts from the book and shared some of her son’s favorite activities, including baking and playing basketball. Through these stories, she helped students understand that while ADHD can sometimes make focusing and paying attention challenging, everyone has their own strengths and ways of experiencing the world. Her visit encouraged students to embrace their differences and appreciate what makes each of them unique.
The learning continued in the library, where students finished reading the book and created self-portraits representing themselves and their own beautiful and unique minds.
