A 21st Century After-School Program
for Grades K-8

Paul Cuffee’s After-School Club (ASC) provides students at the Elementary School (grades K-5) and Middle School (grades 6-8) with a wide range of fun and educational activities during the hours immediately after school. The ASC operates Monday to Friday throughout the school year to ensure that students have consistent access to high-quality supervised programming. (Parents are notified in advance of any days the ASC will be closed, such as on some early-release days.) The ASC has a sliding-scale fee based on family income.

Research shows that children who participate in well-run after-school programs discover interests that give them purpose, form relationships with adult role models, are more likely to stay in school through graduation, and generally avoid dangerous behaviors that can occur during the unsupervised hours after school. Our ASC is designed to promote students’ physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through academic and recreational activities that encourage cooperation and a positive attitude about school. Our mission is to expand learning through quality programs using all available resources within the school community and the city of Providence.

The ASC is licensed by the RI Department of Children and Youth and Families. We maintain a staff-to-child ratio of 1:13 at all times. The ASC is operated by a program manager, a site coordinator, and a team of energetic and caring ASC teachers who understand the needs of children and receive ongoing professional development.
